Musical Brilliance

Don is a tremendously talented singer, songwriter and instrumentalist creating jazz, Native and children's music. We are working up a chronological discography of his music. In the meantime, we offer a few links to CDs now available on-line below.

FALL 2002 - Don's most recent CD "Jazzsong" is on the cusp of post-production. While we do not have a release date at this time, we will be making the CD available for sale on-line. Feel free to email your inquires for purchase to jazzsong@donfrancks.com

"Jazzsong" is a careful reworking of lyrics, melodies, harmony, bass parts and rhythms. Don vocal performances are framed by Steve Hunter on piano and David Trevis on bass. Loved standards like Lulu's Back in Town, Gershwin's Blah Blah Blah, My Favourite Things and Honeysuckle Rose are wrought in fresh, original arrangements. Jazzsong, which has been sitting pretty awaiting release, will be available for purchase this Spring at donfrancks.com. In the meantime, Don is currently working on a collection of his original music, which promises to be a must have for all his music fans! A complete track listing is available below!

It was important to Don that we immediately post a link to Lenny Breau information on the web. In 1962, in Toronto, Lenny formed the group, Three, with singer Don and bass player Ian Henstridge. Lenny was a dear friend and rare talent. Visit guitararchives.com for Lenny Breau recordings and a page dedicated to Lenny at http://www.guitarchives.com/lenny.htm. As a point of interest, here is a complete index of Lenny's discography put together by Paul Kohler.

If you are interested in purchasing Don's CDs "The Insanity of One Man" and "Mesa: The Four Directions", please email your request!

Mesa: The Four Directions - $13.99

"Before my pianist left to go 'on the road' a few years ago, he expressed the desire to involve himself in a project. I immediately gave him two books of Native American music that had been collected by anthropologists over one hundred years ago. Amazingly, these people brought with them musicians who were able to notate these songs as sung by the elder men and women who had learned them from their ancestors from the distant past. On completion, I produced this tape and participated further by playing a few of my own compositions on homemade bamboo flutes and added a spoken introductory poem. This is a rare opportunity to listen to many lost and hitherto unknown songs from the majestic history of some tribes here in North America.
Enjoy." ~ Don Francks
